Rochester Hills Pumpkin Patch

Rochester and Rochester Hills in Oakland County Michigan are rich with great places for family fun like the Paint Creek Trail, Stoney Creek, several Cider Mills, the Art & Applies Festival and the the Village of Rochester Hills.  You can find all kinds of entertainment throughout the year--not to mention great places to live.  This event welcomed the fall season with pumpkins and free family enjoyment for two days in October.  Everyone was invited to come and pick a jack-o'-lantern at the Village's Pumpkin Patch in Festival Park where professional pumpkin artists were standing by for part of the day Saturday to carve silly or scary faces free of charge. All proceeds from pumpkin sales benefited the Oakland Cobras U-14 Travel Softball team.  There was someone creating caricatures, a face painter, a horse drawn hay ride, free apple cider and more.

Rochester Michigan Preparing for the Film Industry

Rochester & Rochester Hills - Welcomes Hollywood

The cities of Rochester Hills and Rochester Michigan located in Oakland County are looking to attract the film industry with the launch of a new website.  Rochester and Rochester Hills are great places to live and photograph and this is their innovative attempt to have film producers see the beauty and cooperation of the city.

Located in the Clinton River Valley of Oakland County, Rochester Hills, Michigan is just that--a community of wooded hills surrounding the charming historic City of Rochester where the quaint walkable downtown and the scenic Paint Creek Trail connects the City of Rochester to the village of Lake Orion.

Video Camera & FilmIn April, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm signed into law legislation designed to grow the film industry in Michigan which could bring hundreds of millions of dollars in private investment that will create jobs in the state.  Rochester Hills and Rochester want to bring it to their cities.  Film producers who have recently begun looking seriously at Michigan for locations have at least two cities who want to take advantage of what the industry can bring.  The site has links to permits, available space and a photo gallery that shows scenic views of business, downtown, scenic areas and even real estate.

Clear Creek is one of the popular sub divisions which is an example of what a great place the Rochester Hills area is and typical of some of the homes depicted in the residential section of the site.  Here is one such home for sale in Rochester Hills.

Rochester Michigan - Art & Apples Festival - A Community Event

The Rochester Michigan 2008 Art & Apples Festival is held annually on the weekend following Labor Day in the 30-acre Rochester Park, located north of University in Downtown Rochester Michigan.  This year the 43rd annual festival was held September 5th, 6th, & 7th and included over 250 fine art exhibitors, a variety of food and live entertainment.  Definitely a family event, there was a free Kids Zone where they "Make and Take art projects and several interactive activities for kids and adults--including walking on stilts.  What would a festival be without food.  Art & Apples' had two different food courts--my favorite was the candied nuts--particularly the cashews.  However, the booth attracted a lot of bees.  Live entertainment completed the event--there was a "Main Stage" and two "Around the Park" stages over the three-day festival weekend.

The festival featured over 250 artists from around the country. The talent and range of artists' mediums included textiles, watercolor, woodworking, glassblowing, pottery, jewelry and more. !Sponsored this year by National City, the Art & Apples Festival benefits Paint Creek Center for the Arts(PCCA), a non-profit art center located in Downtown Rochester.  Their mission is to enhance life in the region by promoting, encouraging and creating opportunities to participate in and appreciate the arts. Click here to learn more about PCCA!  Paint Creek meanders through Rochester Park which is a perfect setting for this event.  Other times throughout the year, the park provides sand volleyball, lighted tennis courts, the open air shelters, restrooms, a pond (for skating in the winter), over a mile of paved walkway and two tot lots at the north end the south end of the Park.  Rochester Municipal Park is also the home of Rochester Community House, which is a not-for-profit service and banquet facility accessible from Ludlow Street.
